Did you know that Martin Luther King, Jr. first delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech in Detroit? Yup, it’s true, and the Tour de Troit has decided to host a bike ride with the hopes of honoring his legacy and the civil rights movement here that was so important nationally.
On January 19, 2015 we invite you to join TdT for its 3rd annual celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. at a cycling event through Detroit.
This is a free ride, but registration is required. Families are encouraged.
The route is approximately 10 miles and will take in the length of the 1963 March to Freedom and several historical sites relevant to King and other local activists that were integral to the March and and the impact of the “I Have a Dream” speech delivered at Cobo Arena afterwards.
The ride will begin and end at McGregor Memorial Conference Center on the campus of Wayne State University. Parking is available on-street and at structures PS#2 (Lodge Service Drive S. of Kirby) and PS#8 (Forest between Woodward and Cass Ave.). Regular rates will apply. Campus map can be found here.
After the ride, hot chocolate is being kindly provided by Wayne State.
Free registration can be found here.
